Project effort and cost tracking: from hours to useful reports

Compare planned and actual effort. An illustrative cost calculation, reporting scope and practical project review checks.

Planned and actual effort are different

Planned effort is an estimate made before work starts; actual effort comes from time entries. Substituting one for the other can misrepresent progress. Compare them for the same task scope and date range.

A simple illustrative cost calculation

Suppose a task takes 10 hours at an internal cost of TRY 500 per hour. Effort cost is TRY 5,000. This is not a sales price, invoice or profit figure; taxes and other expenses should not be assumed included. These illustrative figures are not customer data.

Pre-report checklist

Missing time entries can understate cost. Incorrect project assignments can inflate another project’s cost. Review entry accuracy before calculation assumptions.

  1. Define project, period and included tasks.
  2. Review missing and duplicate time.
  3. Verify scope and currency of cost inputs.
  4. Interpret variances alongside delivered work and scope changes.

Connected effort tracking with Taklino

Taklino connects task-based time tracking with effort and cost reports. Advanced reporting and cost analysis are listed in the current Project Management plan. Consider quality and delivered scope when making decisions.
